Safe & Sound Protocol
Rebalance your nervous system from the comfort of your home.
Is your nervous system stuck in survival mode?
You’ve done the work. You’ve tried talk therapy, mindfulness, maybe even medication. But you still can’t fully relax and engage with the world around you.
→
You’re ready to feel safe in your body again.
You’ve been through chronic stress, trauma, or burnout-and even through you’ve made progress, your body still feels alert, tense, or easily triggered. You have noticed anxious thoughts, trouble focusing, tightness in your shoulders or neck, or digestion that just won't settle. Your frustration threshold is low and you sometimes find yourself acting out aggressively- yelling, hitting, or throwing things. The Safe & Sound Protocol can help retune your nervous system.
→
You want to feel more connection with others.
Instead, you find social engagement to be a challenge. You are often guarded, shut down, withdrawn- disengaged. The people pleasing you do is really to keep yourself safe- and distant. Maybe you misperceive sounds or voices, leading to interpersonal conflict and confusion and decreased social confidence. The Safe & Sound Protocol can help rewire your brain toward safety.
you're in the right place
Listening therapy can support your healing for faster results.
What is the Safe & Sound Protocol?
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through filtered music.
As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to retune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience.
The SSP involves listening to specially filtered music through headphones alongside a provider in person or remotely. Suitable for children and adults, the SSP has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences and more.
Safe & Sound Program Highlights
A 5-hour auditory intervention, consisting of 10 or more listening sessions, developed and patented by Dr. Stephen Porges, author of the Polyvagal Theory.
Designed to reduce sound sensitivity and improve auditory processing and behavioral state regulation.
Activates the client’s social engagement system, helping to accelerate and enhance therapeutic outcomes.
Supports physiological state regulation, allowing for greater resilience
Polyvagal Theory: The Science of Feeling Safe
Developed by world-renowned researcher and Unyte’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. Stephen Porges, Polyvagal Theory focuses on what is happening in the body and the nervous system, and explains how our sense of safety, danger or life-threat can impact our behavior. Understanding Polyvagal Theory gives us a scientific framework that can be applied through physiological, or “bottom-up” therapies, to help change and improve how we feel, think and connect with others.

-
Traditional talk therapy does not engage the nervous system and often results in undesired residual symptoms, despite cognitive processing of the disturbing event or situation. The SSP can help alleviate the nervous system symptoms.
If you have engaged in more somatic forms of therapy such as EMDR or Brainspotting, the SSP can further assist your brain in rewiring toward safety.
SSP is also available as an add on to my Brainspotting Intensives packages.
